Alas, we have turned the page and started a new year, 2011, seems kinda funny to say. Today we were riding in the car and I was telling the kiddies about the date being 1/1/11. My poor daughter, she's only 7, but she just didn't seem to get it. Of course it probably doesn't help that she doesn't write the date as such, she always writes the month.
I've long given up setting resolutions for the New Year. It's not that I set resolutions that are unattainable, but rather my ADD kicks in and I quickly loose sight of the said New Year's Resolution in exchange for something that is more...instant gratification. So the other day while catching up on blog post, Erin at Treasures Found posted about having a word for the year, and several other blog friends have followed suit. This seems like a much better idea for me. Several words come to mind...too many.
These are just a few that come to me immediately, so I'm gonna brainstorm, really think about what words best suit what I'd like to achieve this year, and narrow it down to which one will best suit me creatively. But in the meantime, Happy New Year and may it be filled with creativity, good health, and prosperity.
How about you?
Do you set a New Year's Resolution? And follow through?
Will you be setting a Word for the Year?
Hi Shelby, thanks for leaving a comment. I like the idea of having words as inspiration for goals in the upcoming year. Hmmm. Last year it was Breathe. And boy did I need to keep that in mind. This year, relax maybe?? I just push myself too hard. thanks for getting me thinking about this! Have a great New Year, glad you like the goodies, you're entered in the contest. Take care, Riki
ReplyDeleteWishing you a wonderful 2011. I will be chosing a word to guide me again this year.
ReplyDeleteI am still trying to choose my word for this year - I don't like resolutions - too much pressure. A chosen word is like a guideline, for me.
ReplyDeleteI think it's great to have a word. I just can't figure one out. Maybe I should have a contest to figure out my word.... hmm. Sounds like a blog post....
ReplyDeleteI've also been thinking about my word for the year, inspired by Erin's post...I think mine is going to be calm...I do not have enough of this in my life! So this will be my aim for 2011. Your words are all good! Stick with a bunch if it inspires you more!
ReplyDeleteSounds like you are making progress on finding your word.
ReplyDeleteShelby, we are on the same wavelength--my next post is about Word for the Year. I read about it last year and in typical fashion am just now getting around to it. Check by later, I'll have a resource for helping choose a word.
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year, Shelby!
ReplyDeleteIt is amazing how much snow you got there in DE! We barely got a dusting here in the DC area.
I love how you compiled a grouping of words...I just might need to do the same as I'm having a hard time pinpointing just one. Maybe I need to add being more decisive to my goals for the new year. :-)
